I didn't know that Dilbert debuted in 1989. That's another remarkable thing that happened in the year i was born.

Have been listening to lots of 60's songs on last.fm but this one really stood out.

George Harrison - Any Road (excerpt)

I've been traveling on a wing and a prayer
By the skin of my teeth by the breadth of a hair
Traveling where the four winds blow
With the sun on my face - in the ice
and the snow
.
.
.
And if you don't know where you're going
Any road will take you there

My family are readers, one and all. The difference lies in our literature of choice. My dad reads newspapers and the occasional random fiction he picks up at book sales; my mum exclusively reads romance novels (in both English and Chinese). My younger sis prefers high fantasy, my older sis romance and dragons. Me, I lean towards modern fantasy. That, and non-fiction.

A small victory today: I have finally done what I resolved to do long ago, that is, look a stranger in the eye when thanking him for his small kindness. The lift, an indication to go ahead and press your floor button first. Sometimes it's the little things that count.

I read somewhere that happiness comes from setting small goals, and achieving them every day. Seems like I've taken a first step. Let's see if I can continue to do so, and work my way up to the big time. Volunteering, driving, lessons and courses... wish me luck perseverance.

I think I finally found my niche. Ahh music of the '60s. Thanks to nar and zhu for the amazing CDs, and yi liang for introducing me to last.fm! I think I'm addicted. Haha.

[edit] Well, it seems symphonic renditions of game soundtracks aren't bad either. Haha. [/edit]

I thought to revisit something on Saturday, but realised (belatedly) that that chapter of my life is now closed. For better or worse, that part of my life - a most happy one - is now over. Gotta learn to respect that and move on.

Speaking of that, there's still something else that's gaping open like an open wound. Gotta resolve that soon. I refuse to have that hanging over my head for very much longer.

I think the reason I like oldies so much is because no matter how sad or tragic the subject matter, there's always an inherent optimism present in the songs. The Wonders' That Thing You Do (though this doesn't really count), Petula Clark's Don't Sleep In The Subway, Dionne Warwick's Anyone Who Had A Heart... Songs of the '60s, when everything was so bright and innocent. The time of jazz and hippies, sit-ins and protest marches, when there was still naive optimism and hope in the world.

Sometimes I think I was born 40 years too late.

For slightly more than a year, my life had been in stasis. Now it feels like it's starting to move on.

I'm rather nervous.
